Please join MAI a series of collaborative events and public installations to occur at Art Basel and its sister fair Design Miami/ 2014 in Miami.
1. At Design Miami/: MAI will present the Counting the Rice exercise. This installation will be accompanied by two special edition design objects at the fair. The first is a concrete Counting The Rice table designed by Daniel Libeskind and the second is Patricia Urquiola’s Portal chair designed specifically for audiences of long durational performances. The proceeds of the sale of both objects will benefit MAI.
2. Art Basel - Fondation Beyeler Booth: A collaboration between MAI and the Beyeler Foundation will take place at Beyeler’s booth at the Art Basel fair. MAI will present an interactive public installation designed by performance artist Marina Abramovic. Participants, guided by trained facilitators, will be encouraged to lie down, rest, and sleep with no time restriction. This exercise will offer the public an opportunity to slow down within the lively, fast-paced environment of Art Basel.
Limited edition prints of Marina Abramovic produced by Gary Lichtenstein Editions at Mana will also be available at the Foundation Beyeler Booth at Art Basel. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with any inquiries.
3. Miami Design District: In the Miami Design District, MAI will present the Counting the Rice exercise. This long durational exercise requires participants to separate rice from lentils and will take place on a series of wooden tables specially designed by Daniel Libeskind in collaboration with the Italian design company Moroso. Counting the Rice helps participants to develop endurance, concentration, perception, self-control, and willpower.
4. YoungArts (at the Jewel Box): MAI and the National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts), the non-profit organization that contributes to the cultural vitality of the nation by supporting the artistic development of talented young artists, will present the Slow Motion Walk exercise at the YoungArts Jewel Box.
